Dogger Bank Wind Farm and its partners have completed installation of the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) offshore substation platform for Dogger Bank C, marking a key construction milestone for the project and the final substation installation across all three Dogger Bank phases. The article, published on 23 May 2025, reports that the HVDC platform for Dogger Bank C has now been installed offshore, confirming that the topside lift and placement onto its foundation have been successfully executed. This achievement consolidates the electrical infrastructure required to connect the third 1.2 GW phase to the onshore grid. The Dogger Bank C topside was manufactured and supplied by Aibel and installed using Heerema Marine Contractors’ heavy lift vessel Sleipnir. The topside measures roughly 75 by 50 metres, is 36 metres high, and is mounted on a four-legged steel jacket foundation fixed to the seabed at an average depth of 23 metres. The topside installation followed the successful placement of the jacket, which had been completed about a week earlier, indicating a tightly sequenced offshore campaign. With the structure now in place, commissioning activities will begin to prepare the platform to receive up to 1.2 GW of alternating current from the offshore turbines, convert it to direct current, and transmit it to onshore converter stations near Beverley in East Riding of Yorkshire and near Redcar on Teesside. The platforms are designed for remote operation and will be accessed only via Service Operations Vessels.
