In 2018, IPTO submitted its recommended scheme for the Dodecanese interconnection to Greece’s Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE), a prerequisite step for including the project in IPTO’s preliminary Ten‑Year Development Plan 2020–2029. The proposed scheme defined an "electric corridor" from the mainland via Corinth and Kos onward to Rhodes and Karpathos, thereby encompassing the future Rhodes–Karpathos (Rhodes Thermal Power Station–Karpathos) section.
