On 23 June 2009, the Greek authorities issued an approval of environmental terms for the project to interconnect the Cyclades with the Greek interconnected electricity transmission system, a decision that covers the Phase A links including the Syros–Paros connection. This approval, communicated via a press announcement associated with YΠΕΧΩΔΕ, enabled the project to proceed by confirming compliance with environmental requirements for the planned submarine cable and related works.
