The 700 MW Curonian Nord offshore wind farm is planned to enter full commercial operation around 2030, making it the first offshore wind project in the Baltic States and supplying roughly a quarter of Lithuania’s current electricity demand. Project information from Ignitis Renewables and the Curonian Nord website sets a target for the wind farm to be in operation around 2030, but Ignitis has since warned in its 2024 results and subsequent communications that the commercial operation date, initially scheduled for 2030, may be postponed due to delays in large-scale electrolysis projects reducing long-term offtake visibility, supply-chain constraints, and resulting financing challenges; the company continues development work aiming for a construction permit in 2027, with COD timing now described as potentially delayed beyond the original 2030 target.
