TERNA was contracted by IPTO S.A. for the construction phase of the Crete–Peloponnese interconnection’s onshore substations. The contract covers building a new onshore substation in the south‑east Peloponnese and upgrading and extending the existing substation in the Chania area of Crete, enabling the 150 kV AC island link to be integrated into the Hellenic transmission system. The scope comprises substation civil works, installation and integration of new high‑voltage equipment, and modification of existing facilities to accommodate the two new submarine and associated underground cable circuits. The contract, valued at €18.5 million and signed on 27 November 2018, formed part of the main construction package for this first electrical interconnection of Crete with mainland Greece.
