HELLENIC CABLES has undertaken the underground interconnections in Crete within the Peloponnese–Crete interconnection project, providing the high‑voltage land cables that connect the submarine interconnectors to the Chania substation.
IPTO S.A. awarded Hellenic Cables a dedicated contract for the underground cable interconnections on Crete for the Crete–Peloponnese 150 kV interconnector. Signed on 27 November 2018 and valued at approximately €41.09 million, the contract covers the manufacture, supply and installation of high‑voltage underground transmission cables and accessories that link the landfalls of the two submarine circuits near Chania to the existing Chania substation, which is being upgraded under a separate substation contract. Hellenic Cables is responsible for delivering and installing these 150 kV land cables as part of the construction phase, completing the onshore connection of both western and eastern submarine cables on the Cretan side and enabling reliable power transfer between Crete and the mainland grid.
