On 3 July 2021 the Crete–Peloponnese 150 kV AC interconnection began transferring power loads from the Greek mainland to Crete, marking the first commercial power flow over the new submarine link with the objective of preventing energy insufficiency on the island during the summer demand season. Between launch on 3 July and 20 August 2021 the link consistently supplied Crete at a capacity of between 70 and 80 MW. Transmission was subsequently boosted to 100 MW between 20 and 25 August 2021, ahead of further capacity ramp steps later that month as IPTO progressed the link towards near full per-circuit capacity. The 3 July launch took place ahead of the formal commercial launch and start of hybrid-market participation on 1 November 2021.
