On 24 September 2018, IPTO/ADMIE announced the successful completion of the tender process for the cables of the Crete–Peloponnese 150 kV AC interconnection, with FULGOR (the Greek subsea cable manufacturer of the Hellenic Cables group) selected for the first (Western) submarine interconnection between the Peloponnese and Crete together with the associated underground interconnections in the Peloponnese, for a total consideration of approximately €140.2 million. The award covers design, manufacture and installation of approximately 135.7 km of three-core 150 kV XLPE-insulated submarine power cable plus the Peloponnese-side underground sections, forming one of the two parallel AC circuits of the Crete–Peloponnese interconnection. The IPTO Chairman M. Manousakis stated at the time that "the interconnection of Crete has begun and its timely completion in 2020 will contribute decisively to the reliable energy supply of the Island". The tender process was conducted via electronic auctioning and was completed within two months. Formal contract signing for the project's main works followed on 27 November 2018. The award placed FULGOR alongside Prysmian Powerlink (eastern submarine circuit, €125.9 million) and Hellenic Cables (Crete underground interconnections, €41.09 million) as the three principal cable suppliers contracted by IPTO for this milestone submarine power interconnection project.
