Prysmian Group awarded Correll Group a contract to provide a customised turnkey solution for the Calvados (Courseulles‑sur‑Mer) export grid connection, covering pull‑in, termination and testing of two 225 kV HVAC export cables (each about 17.5 km) to the offshore substation platform, including permanent hang‑offs, HV core and fibre routing, terminations, and post‑installation testing between the onshore substation and offshore assets, with the work carried out in 2023.
In 2023, under a contract from Prysmian Group, Correll Group executed the pull-in, termination and testing of two approximately 17.5 km, 225 kV HVAC export cables to the offshore substation platform for the 448 MW Courseulles-sur-Mer (Calvados) offshore wind farm. The scope covered pulling in both export cables, completing permanent hang-offs, routing and terminating the high-voltage and fibre-optic cores into the gas-insulated switchgear and fibre enclosures, and conducting post-installation tests from the onshore substation to the offshore assets.
RTE’s 2025 Schéma Décennal de Développement du Réseau (fiche 6, "Raccordement de la production éolienne en mer") states that for the fourth offshore wind farm (Calvados), the grid connection is effective since 2023 ("pour le quatrième (Calvados), le raccordement est effectif depuis 2023 mais les éoliennes n’ont pas encore été installées"). This indicates the export connection has been made available and can operate at its intended capacity from 2023, even though turbines are not yet installed.
On 4 August 2022, Eiffage Travaux Maritimes et Fluviaux completed the landfall installation of the second export cable for the Calvados (Courseulles-sur-Mer) offshore wind farm opposite Bernières-sur-Mer beach in Normandy, successfully pulling a 3 km cable section ashore. The work was performed for Prysmian Power Link on behalf of transmission operator RTE, which is responsible for connecting the wind farm to the French grid.
Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE) awarded Prysmian Group an export cable contract of around €300 million to design, supply and install 220 kV high‑voltage export lines for France’s first three large offshore wind farms, including the Calvados (Courseulles‑sur‑Mer) project, thereby selecting Prysmian as the export cable supplier for the Calvados grid connection.
