Siemens was contracted by Dutch TSO TenneT TSO B.V. and Danish TSO Energinet.dk to deliver the two onshore HVDC converter stations for the COBRAcable interconnector between the Netherlands and Denmark. The order covers system design and the turnkey supply, installation and commissioning of two 700 MW, ±320 kV HVDC Plus (VSC-MMC) converter stations located at Eemshaven in the Netherlands and Endrup in Denmark. Siemens’ equipment converts AC to DC for transmission via the 325 km subsea cable and back to AC on the opposite shore, improving cross-border security of supply and enabling greater integration of renewable energy. Energinet.dk is responsible for the civil construction of the Endrup converter building, while Siemens provides the full converter station at Eemshaven. Siemens’ share of the contract value is reported at around EUR 170 million, with commercial operation targeted for early 2019.
