Trench dredging and backfilling over ~6 km in the Waddenzee near Eemshaven for installation and burial of the COBRAcable HVDC interconnector.
Rohde Nielsen was contracted by Prysmian Power Link, together with TenneT and Energinet, to perform trench dredging and backfilling works for the COBRAcable interconnector in the Waddenzee zone near Eemshaven, the Netherlands. In 2018–2019 the company moved more than 4 million m³ of sand along a 6 km section to create and then backfill the cable trench in a challenging shallow‑water area with strong resiltation, moving sandbanks and breaking waves from the North Sea. This marine earthworks package formed a key part of the construction‑phase cable installation works, preparing the seabed and providing burial for the two 700 MW HVDC submarine cables as they landfall in Eemshaven.
