At the end of September 2020, a failure was detected on the COBRAcable HVDC submarine power cable, taking the 700 MW Netherlands-Denmark interconnector out of operation. The fault was located offshore on the seabed between the two countries at a depth of 40 metres. The interconnection remained out of service for several months while the operators, TenneT (Netherlands) and Energinet.dk (Denmark), investigated, located and prepared the offshore repair campaign. The outage began at the end of September 2020 — month-precision is used because the exact day of fault detection is not disclosed in available public sources, which consistently refer to "the end of September 2020".
