On 8 January 2021, the COBRAcable HVDC subsea interconnector between Eemshaven (Netherlands) and Endrup (Denmark) was returned to operation following an offshore cable repair campaign by TenneT and Energinet.dk. The faulty section of cable, located at a depth of 40 metres on the seabed, was cut and lifted; engineers measured 200 metres of cable on each side of the cut to pinpoint the damage. The damaged section was removed, a new section of cable was installed and jointed, the repair was successfully tested, and the cable was then relaid and buried two metres deep in the seabed. The 700 MW interconnector resumed commercial trading between the Dutch and Danish power systems on the same day. The outage had begun at the end of September 2020.
