On 18 December 2024, Bilfinger, a leading industrial services provider, was selected by Cerulean Winds to join its alliance of companies developing the Aspen, Beech (Cerulean Beech), and Cedar floating offshore wind farms. Under this appointment, Bilfinger will act as the operations and maintenance (O&M) partner across the three projects, which together are planned to deliver more than 3 GW of renewable green energy for the UK. The announcement, made from Aberdeen, frames the deal as part of the broader North Sea energy transition, with Cerulean Winds highlighting Bilfinger’s background as a major oil and gas service provider now redeploying its workforce and expertise into floating offshore wind. Bilfinger’s role will begin with advising on O&M during the detailed design of the 1 GW Aspen site, the first of the three wind farms to be developed, creating opportunities to integrate innovative technologies and optimise long-term maintenance strategies before construction and commissioning. Once the developments are built, Bilfinger E&M UK will deliver the O&M services for the floating offshore wind farms. Cerulean Winds and Bilfinger position this collaboration as a significant milestone that supports industrial decarbonisation and the electrification of offshore oil and gas facilities, while contributing to the UK government’s 50 GW by 2030 offshore wind capacity target. The partnership consolidates a core O&M capability for the Aspen, Beech, and Cedar projects within Cerulean’s wider floating wind consortium.
