By 27 February 2025, in the context of planning the connections for the Centre Manche offshore wind farms including Centre Manche 2, French TSO RTE had examined but ruled out a single mutualised grid connection for capacities above 2 GW; instead, due to network capacity limits and grid fragility between Manche and Calvados, it proposed two separate ±320 kV HVDC links of 1,250 MW each (CM1 and CM2) with defined offshore and onshore corridors, including an offshore platform, up to 80 km subsea cable landfall at Ouistreham and about 30 km underground cable to a new converter station adjacent to the existing 400 kV Tourbe substation, with routes chosen to minimise environmental and technical impacts.
