Installation of ducting, cabling, junction boxes, tunnel works and civil works along a 43 km onshore cable route from the submarine interface at Youghal/Claycastle Beach to Knockraha substation for the Celtic Interconnector.
Sorensen Civil Engineering was engaged by Nexans as part of the delivery team for the Celtic Interconnector’s Irish land route. The company is responsible for installing ducting, cabling, junction boxes, tunnel works and all associated civil works from the submarine cable landfall at Youghal/Claycastle Beach to the final termination point at Knockraha substation near Carrigtwohill, a route of approximately 43 km. Sorensen’s scope includes trenching, duct installation, joint bays and related road and ground reinstatement to accommodate both the 320 kV HVDC land cable and the 400 kV HVAC grid connection. Works are scheduled to run from January 2023 to May 2026 and are coordinated with Nexans and EirGrid to meet the project’s 2026 commissioning target.
