SECAD Partnership CLG acted as the independent fund administrator for Phase 1 of the Celtic Interconnector Community Benefit Fund, which was established by EirGrid to support communities near the Celtic Interconnector project in east Cork. In this role, SECAD Partnership CLG provided third-party administrative support for the Phase 1 grant programme, following the completion of the application and assessment process. Phase 1 of the Community Benefit Fund opened for applications on 29 June 2023 and closed on 15 September 2023, with successful applicants announced in December 2023. After awards were determined, SECAD Partnership CLG contacted the successful applicants. The Phase 1 funding round resulted in 29 community groups receiving support across a range of local activities and initiatives. The Community Benefit Fund was associated with the Celtic Interconnector sub-sea cable project linking the electricity grids of Ireland and France, and was designed to recognise the role of local communities hosting this grid infrastructure and to acknowledge temporary disruption during construction. SECAD Partnership CLG’s independent administrator appointment supported the transparent delivery of Phase 1 awards across the fund’s activity streams (community, sustainability, and biodiversity), as referenced in the Phase 1 reporting on EirGrid’s project information page.
