Celtic Interconnector 700 MW 320 kV HVDC symmetric monopole link between Knockraha (Ireland) and La Martyre (France), total route length 575 km with 500 km subsea and 75 km underground onshore cable.
Nexans was awarded the main cable EPC contract for the Celtic Interconnector, the 700 MW, 320 kV HVDC link between Ireland and France developed by EirGrid and RTE. The scope covers design, manufacture and installation of the subsea HVDC cable system, the underground HVDC land cables in Brittany and Cork, and the 400 kV HVAC connection to the Irish grid. Nexans is manufacturing about 1,000 km of subsea cable at its Halden plant in Norway and 180 km of underground cables in Charleroi, Belgium, with accessories from Cortaillod, Switzerland, and is installing the system using its Nexans Aurora cable‑lay vessel and other marine assets. Construction and energisation are scheduled in the 2023–2026 period.
