DELAYED +8mo (Apr 2026): EirGrid and SONI moved the Celtic Interconnector commissioning date from 2027 to spring 2028 due to subsea cable manufacturing and installation delays. EirGrid’s March 2026 newsletter now shows final marine installation, completion of converter commissioning and “Trial operation & commercial operation” all in 2028, so commercial operation clearly will not occur before 2028; given the compressed schedule, shifting full-power COD to late 2028 is more realistic than early 2028. --- The 700 MW Celtic Interconnector between Knockraha in Ireland and La Martyre in France is expected to be commissioned and fully operational in spring 2028, providing the first direct electricity interconnection between Ireland and continental Europe and enabling routine bidirectional power exchanges.
