1991Commercial Operations Full Power

Cape Clear Island was connected to Ireland’s National Grid in 1991, marking the completion of the rural electrification effort and the start of full commercial electricity supply to the island via the mainland cable system operated by ESB. This connection replaced the island’s previous arrangements and ensured continuous grid power to this remote West Cork community.
