Long-term maintenance of the Caithness–Moray HVDC cable system (±320 kV, 160 km route, 113 km subsea and 47 km underground), as part of a multi-terminal HVDC scheme with Shetland.
NKT was awarded a long-term service agreement by Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission PLC to maintain the Caithness–Moray and Shetland HVDC subsea and land cable systems. As the original equipment manufacturer that designed, developed, prequalified, type tested, manufactured and installed the HVDC cables, NKT will provide ongoing maintenance services for the Caithness–Moray link’s cable system, including mobilisation capability, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, and fault-response support. The negotiated multi-site agreement, concluded in July 2023 with an option to extend, is intended to safeguard the reliability of the HVDC cable infrastructure forming part of the UK’s main interconnected transmission system.
