MMT carried out a combined geophysical, geotechnical and environmental cable-route survey for the Caithness–Moray (LT21) circuit in 2008. The campaign used multibeam echo sounder, side-scan sonar, sub-bottom profiler, magnetometer and environmental sampling to establish seabed topography and identify geological features, man-made objects and shallow soils along the then-proposed route offshore from Portgordon. The work informed early route development and installation planning for the Caithness–Moray HVDC cable.
