On 9 September 2014, Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc awarded ABB an order worth over $800 million to provide the Caithness-Moray HVDC power transmission link, including the manufacture and installation of the project’s submarine and underground cables covering nearly 160 km, thereby selecting ABB as the cable supplier for the interconnector. SSE later highlighted this as a £460 million Living Wage contract with ABB Limited specifically for the manufacture and installation of the submarine cable.
