Jan De Nul Group was in charge of installing scour protection for the 80 monopile turbine foundations at the Butendiek offshore wind farm in the North Sea west of Sylt. The work included placement of a filter rock layer (approximately 71,000 tonnes) ahead of monopile installation using the fall pipe vessel Simon Stevin, followed by installation of an armour rock layer (approximately 123,000 tonnes) using the vessel Tiger, which was modified with an inclined fall pipe to handle large rock sizes.
