In March 2014, OWP Butendiek began offshore works at the wind farm site in the North Sea west of Sylt with seabed preparation at the turbine foundation locations. According to the project’s official installation timeline, the first activity offshore was installation of a circular filter layer for scour protection at each foundation position. This filter layer, approximately 35 metres in diameter and composed of gravel and sand, was placed on the seabed to prevent erosion and scouring of the soil around the foundations, providing a stable base for subsequent monopile installation and other construction activities.
