On the Butendiek offshore wind farm’s official installation timeline, the start of the monopile foundation installation campaign is marked by the “pile driving of first monopile” in April 2014. At the North Sea site west of Sylt, a tug transports the floating monopile to the designated turbine location, where it is connected to the lifting gear, upended, and then driven into the seabed using a hydraulic hammer to a depth of up to 50 metres. This operation represents the first foundation being installed for the wind farm’s turbines and signals the commencement of the wider monopile foundation installation campaign offshore.
