In approximately September 2014, the Butendiek offshore wind farm in the North Sea west of Sylt commenced its wind farm cable laying campaign. According to the project’s installation timeline, this phase is marked as the “START OF WIND FARM CABLE LAYING”. During this activity, cables were loaded in a predetermined sequence onto a dedicated cable-laying vessel. The vessel then laid the cables section by section between the turbine foundations across the wind farm area. At each location, the cable ends were pulled into the monopile foundations. After laying and pull-in, the cables were buried into the seabed to provide mechanical protection and ensure long-term reliability of the inter-array electrical network. This milestone represents the start of offshore cable installation works for the project.
