On 4 April 2024, following consideration of the Variation Application and consultation responses, the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero decided to vary the existing Section 36 consent for the Burbo Bank offshore wind farm under section 36C of the Electricity Act 1989, approving improvement works to install aerodynamic tip extenders on each turbine to boost efficiency and increase power generation.

Between 2 September and 13 October 2023, the Variation Application to amend the Burbo Bank Section 36 consent to permit aerodynamic tip boosters was subject to public consultation conducted under the Electricity Generating Stations (Variation of Consent) (England and Wales) Regulations 2013, with the application published and served on Wirral Council as the relevant planning authority.

On 26 July 2023, Ørsted Burbo (UK) Limited submitted a variation application under section 36C of the Electricity Act 1989 to the Secretary of State, seeking to amend the existing Section 36 consent for Burbo Bank to allow installation of aerodynamic tip boosters on the turbine blades to improve efficiency and increase power generation.
By May 2019, Ørsted reported that a new operations and maintenance base at Kings Wharf, Birkenhead, serving both Burbo Bank and Burbo Bank Extension, had been built and completed by Robertson North West, providing warehouse storage, office space and welfare facilities for around 45 full-time staff supporting ongoing wind farm maintenance.
On 21 November 2016, DONG Energy reported that construction work was underway on a multi-million-pound state-of-the-art operations and maintenance facility at King’s Wharf, Seacombe, intended to serve both the existing Burbo Bank Offshore Wind Farm and the Burbo Bank Extension in Liverpool Bay.

On 19 July 2011, the Section 36 consent for the Burbo Bank offshore wind farm was further varied to extend the latest date for commencement of development to 27 August 2015.
In June 2010, Offshore Marine Management (OMM) carried out an inspection survey of the offshore export cable connecting the Burbo Bank Offshore Wind Farm to shore in Liverpool Bay, under a contract awarded by DONG Energy. The campaign also included inspection of the BB13–BB14 inter-array power cable, with data collected over the month to assess the in-service condition of the export connection and associated infrastructure.
By 2007, the original 90 MW Burbo Bank Offshore Wind Farm had completed installation of its 25 Siemens 3.6 MW turbines with 107 m rotor diameters off the Liverpool coast, making it the first UK offshore wind farm to use 100 m-class rotors.
The Burbo Offshore Wind Farm, including its associated export connection in Liverpool Bay, was formally opened on 18 August 2007, signifying the transition from construction into full operational service for the project.
According to the Burbo Offshore Wind Farm post-construction Year 1 monitoring report, offshore construction began in May 2006 and the project generated its first power in July 2007, marking initial energisation of the Burbo Bank system prior to formal opening in August 2007.
