BritNed ±450 kV MI HVDC submarine cable system, 1,000 MW capacity, approximately 250 km offshore (two bundled cables) plus 7 km onshore in NL and 2 km onshore in the UK.
In early 2021 NKT was awarded a turnkey service contract to repair the BritNed 450 kV mass‑impregnated HVDC power cable system after an offshore fault. NKT rapidly mobilised personnel and equipment to locate the fault around 100 km off the Dutch coast, de‑bury the cable, perform cut‑and‑seal operations and install a replacement section using the cable‑laying vessel NKT Victoria supported by DP2 Assister. Despite challenging weather, the company completed the offshore repair campaign within 29 days and returned the 1,000 MW BritNed interconnector between the UK and the Netherlands to full operation, demonstrating its capability in fast‑response subsea cable maintenance and repair services.
