In April 2025, BritNed introduced “Buy Now 2.0”, an upgraded version of its Dutch-style Buy Now intraday capacity auction product, enabled by the Empire auction and nomination platform. The new release replaced the previous standardised 5 MW capacity blocks used in Buy Now auctions with a custom capacity request feature. This allows market participants to specify the exact capacity they want to acquire, from very small volumes up to the full amount of capacity offered in the auction, giving them greater ease and control over their positions. Buy Now itself redirects around 10% of BritNed’s intraday capacity into innovative descending-price auctions that can run up to two minutes before the nomination gate closure; Buy Now 2.0 enhances this flexibility for interconnector users.
