In December 2009, the European Investment Bank (EIB) signed loan financing agreements totalling EUR 300 million with BritNed Development Ltd, the project company for the BritNed UK–Netherlands electricity interconnector. The EIB project page records two separate loan signature dates, 7 December 2009 and 9 December 2009, each covering a EUR 150 million tranche, corresponding to the UK and Dutch components of the project. These signed loan tranches provided long-term debt funding towards the estimated EUR 600 million total project cost for the design, construction and operation of the BritNed high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cable link across the North Sea between the Netherlands and Great Britain.
