In 2007, BritNed, the joint venture of TenneT TSO BV and National Grid, awarded a contract worth about $350 million to ABB Limited for the design, engineering and implementation of the marine high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables and associated equipment for the 260‑kilometre BritNed interconnector linking Maasvlakte in the Netherlands with the Isle of Grain in Kent, UK, thereby formally selecting ABB as the project’s cable supplier.
