On 29 September 2025, RTE awarded Eiffage, through its subsidiary Smulders, an EPCIC contract to develop and build three 750 MW alternating current offshore substations for the Bretagne Sud (AO5), Narbonnaise Sud-Hérault, and Golfe de Fos (AO6) offshore wind farms and their future AO9 extensions. The contract, worth more than EUR 1.5 billion for all three platforms combined, covers the design, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of jacket foundations and topsides, with jackets for Bretagne Sud around 115 metres high and all components manufactured in France and Europe and assembled at Eiffage Métal’s Fos-sur-Mer site and Smulders’ Vlissingen yard, thereby securing the shared Bretagne Sud offshore substation that will also connect the AO9 Bretagne Sud 2 extension.
