Brensholmen–Melfjordaksla–Silsand is a proposed domestic Norwegian 132 kV transmission reinforcement that would link Brensholmen (Tromsø municipality) with Silsand on Senja (Senja municipality) via Melfjordaksla, including a subsea crossing of the intervening fjord/strait. The scheme is presented...
On 24 October 2024, the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) granted Arva AS a concession for a new 132 kV transmission line between Silsand and Botnhamn (previously Brensholmen) and an associated transformer substation, determining that the project will increase grid capacity, enable electrification and industrial development, and improve security of supply for northern Senja. The consent includes numerous conditions to mitigate impacts on reindeer herding, biodiversity, landscape and other land uses, and requires Arva to submit a detailed plan for NVE’s approval before construction starts; NVE also simultaneously granted expropriation rights for necessary land and rights of way.
Arva AS submitted to NVE an application for a new 132 kV transmission line from Silsand to Brensholmen, accompanied by a konsekvensutredning (Environmental Impact Assessment), on 11 May 2020. The EIA formed part of the anleggskonsesjon (construction licence) application for the Silsand/Brensholmen–Botnhamn line segment.
