The NVE has granted Statnett a licence for new subsea cables across the Indre Oslofjord. The decision involves the construction and operation of seven 420 kV subsea cables and two new landing facilities for each of the interconnectors Solberg-Brenntangen and Filtvet-Brenntangen between the municipalities of Hurum and Vestby.
Nexans was contracted by Statnett to deliver the subsea cable systems for the Inner Oslofjord power connection, including the 420 kV link between Solberg in Hurum and Brenntangen in Vestby Municipality (Solberg–Brenntangen). Under a contract worth around EUR 50 million, Nexans undertook the design, manufacture, testing and installation of two new 420 kV subsea cable systems, one of which is the Brenntangen–Solberg interconnector. Each link comprises seven XLPE-insulated high-voltage AC cables installed at up to 220 m water depth. Nexans installed and buried the cables using Statnett’s cable-laying vessel M/S Elektron and its Capjet trenching system, providing a turnkey subsea solution to reinforce security of supply in central Eastern Norway.
