Statnett decided to reinvest in the Inner Oslofjord subsea cable interconnectors, including the Filtvet–Brenntangen (Flesaker–Tegneby) link, as part of a major project to replace ageing 420 kV subsea cable assets. The facilities on the Inner Oslofjord were decided to be reinvested in 2008 and 2011 due to their high age and uncertain technical condition, with the project covering two new 420 kV subsea cable systems on the Filtvet–Brenntangen and Solberg–Brenntangen stretches. Statnett’s board took the investment decision for the Inner Oslofjord subsea interconnectors, with an expected investment value at decision of about NOK 1,109 million, to secure electricity supply to the central Østlandet region, improve reliability, reduce maintenance, and support grid upgrades and power exchange with Sweden.
