In December 2025, Thistle Wind Partners submitted an application for Planning Permission in Principle to Aberdeenshire Council for the national onshore infrastructure associated with the Bowdun Offshore Wind Farm. The application covers the landfall near Benholm, underground export cable corridor, onshore substation, and connection into the planned Hurlie substation at Fetteresso Forest, following an optioneering process, environmental impact assessment and extensive engagement with local communities and stakeholders in North East Scotland.
