On 8 October 2025, the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) issued the Planfeststellungsbeschluss for the offshore grid connection system "BorWin6 and BorWin kappa", authorising construction of the BorWin kappa offshore converter platform and its associated HVDC subsea cable system. The connection has a transmission capacity of 980 MW and will link the Nordlicht I offshore wind farm to the onshore grid at the Büttel grid node. The plan approval is one of the final regulatory steps before building the offshore grid assets required for export of Nordlicht I's generation.
