BorWin3 ±320 kV HVDC bipole export cable system (approx. 130 km subsea + 30 km land) connecting BorWin gamma offshore converter platform to Emden/Ost onshore converter station.
TenneT awarded Prysmian Group a contract worth more than EUR 250 million to supply, install and commission the BorWin3 HVDC export cable system. The scope covered a ±320 kV extruded bipole connection rated at 900 MW, including both the 130 km subsea section from the BorWin gamma offshore converter platform to landfall near Hamswehrum and the approximately 30 km underground section to the onshore converter station at Emden/Ost. Prysmian manufactured the submarine and land power cables and associated fibre-optic cables at its Pikkala (Finland) and Gron (France) plants and executed marine installation using its DP2 cable‑laying vessel Cable Enterprise, complemented by other installation spreads. The work included cable laying, protection and offshore and onshore terminations to provide a complete transmission link for TenneT’s North Sea Cluster 8 offshore wind grid connection. Installation activities were scheduled for completion by October 2017.
