Siemens Energy secured a major turnkey contract from Danish and German TSOs Energinet and 50Hertz to supply the high-voltage converter station infrastructure for the Bornholm Energy Island hybrid interconnector. The scope covers the design, manufacture, transport, installation, testing, and commissioning of four onshore HVDC converter stations and one HVAC high-voltage substation. Two converter stations and the HVAC station will be built near Aakirkeby on Bornholm, with the remaining converter stations located at Lindehøj on Zealand and in Kemnitz in Germany’s Vorpommern-Greifswald district. These assets will convert and transmit at least 3 GW of offshore wind power from the Bornholm hub into the Danish and German grids and provide cross-border trading capacity. The contract, valued at over €1 billion, forms one of the largest single packages in the Bornholm Energy Island project and underpins its transition from development into implementation.
