The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) granted Ørsted the Planfeststellungsbeschluss (plan approval) for the 900 MW Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm in the German North Sea, authorising construction of 83 Siemens 11 MW turbines on monopile foundations over a 75 km² area with 66 kV cables directly connecting to a converter platform. The permit followed a formal plan approval procedure including public participation and an environmental impact assessment, and brings the project, formed by merging the OWP West and Borkum Riffgrund West I & II auction areas, a significant step closer to realisation.
