In 2019, Ørsted consolidated the three originally separate German offshore wind projects Borkum Riffgrund West 1, Borkum Riffgrund West 2, and OWP West, which had been awarded in the 2017 and 2018 auctions, into a single project company under the unified name Borkum Riffgrund 3. This merger created Ørsted’s largest German offshore wind project, with an export capacity of about 900 MW on a 75 km² site approximately 72 km off the Lower Saxony coast and about 53 km from the island of Borkum.
