The 450 MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm exported electricity to the German national grid for the first time on 4 August 2018, marking initial power from the project’s 56 MHI Vestas 8 MW turbines in the German North Sea. Commissioning power was supplied via a connecting cable from sister project Borkum Riffgrund 1, allowing turbine commissioning to proceed independently of TenneT’s grid connection works while generated power was collected at the offshore substation and forwarded into TenneT’s high-voltage network.
