On 25 February 2004, the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) granted consent under the Seeanlagenverordnung for the construction and operation of the Borkum Riffgrund 1 offshore wind farm, authorising 77 wind turbines on monopile foundations in the German Exclusive Economic Zone of the North Sea.
