In May 2022, following completion of a TenneT-specified prequalification process that was also accepted by Germany’s three other transmission system operators, Borkum Riffgrund 1 was approved to provide system-stabilising balancing power as minute and secondary reserve across all four German control areas and began supplying balancing energy to the grid.
