On 29 August 2024, the Bellrock Offshore Wind Farm awarded an engineering and design contract to First Marine Solutions for “mooring design screening and preliminary optimisation of concepts,” as recorded in the NSTA Energy Pathfinder listing. The contract is attributed to the Bellrock Offshore Wind project, which is being developed by the BlueFloat Energy | Nadara Partnership. Bellrock is a proposed 1.8 GW floating offshore wind farm located around 120 km east of Stonehaven, with design options including floating substructures and/or fixed-bottom foundations and a range of associated station-keeping systems such as mooring lines and anchors. The specific scope of work for First Marine Solutions focuses on early-stage mooring engineering, including screening different mooring design options and carrying out preliminary optimisation of these concepts. This work will help refine the station-keeping systems for the project’s floating wind turbine generators and any related infrastructure, ensuring that the selected concepts are technically robust and compatible with the site’s environmental and seabed conditions. The award marks a defined procurement milestone within Bellrock’s broader design and development process. This contract supports Bellrock’s ongoing efforts to refine project options in conjunction with its environmental impact assessment and wider regional collaboration on environmental data collection. By advancing detailed mooring concept work at this stage, the project can better integrate engineering, environmental, and supply-chain considerations as it progresses through early development toward later design and consent milestones.
