UTEC, Acteon’s Geo-services business line, was awarded a combined geophysical and geotechnical site investigation scope for the Bellrock floating offshore wind farm (and the Broadshore project) northeast of Aberdeen, Scotland. The scope included data acquisition and interpretation to characterise seafloor composition and structure to inform early engineering and development decisions. The geophysical survey work involved use of the Ocean Fortune geophysical survey vessel (on long-term charter) for North Sea operations, and the geotechnical scope included deployment of UTEC/Benthic’s Portable Remotely Operated Drill (PROD) seabed drilling solution. Onshore support and data handling were provided from Acteon facilities in Scotland (including an operations centre in Westhill, Aberdeenshire, and a data centre in Livingston, West Lothian).
