Beatrice was awarded an exclusivity agreement by The Crown Estate in February 2009 to develop an offshore wind farm in the Outer Moray Firth, 13.5 km off the Caithness coast, as one of ten sites awarded under the Crown Estate Scotland Scottish Territorial Waters (STW) Round 1. The original partnership comprised SSE Renewables and Repsol Nuevas Energias UK; the project was later acquired by SSE, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and SDIC Power.
