Barrow Offshore Wind Farm exported its first electricity to the grid on 7 March 2006, after the first row of eight turbines and the UK’s first offshore substation were commissioned, with power transmitted via the 27 km subsea cable to the National Grid connection point at Heysham on the Lancashire coast.
