The German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) granted planning consent for the BARD Offshore 1 wind farm in April 2007, authorising construction and operation of 80 turbines of up to 5 MW each in the German North Sea, approximately 89 km northwest of Borkum. This approval formed part of a wider set of offshore wind farm consents in the German Exclusive Economic Zone issued by BSH since 2001.
